What is scoliosis?
Scoliosis is a medical condition characterised by an abnormal curvature of the spine, typically in a sideways direction. This is associated with rotation which results in the characteristic Shoulder, chest and waist asymmetry.
This curvature can range from mild to severe and may cause the spine to resemble an “S” or a “C” shape when viewed from the back. Scoliosis can develop during childhood or adolescence, known as adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, or it can be present at birth or develop later in life due to other factors, sometimes unknown cause.
In some cases, scoliosis may progress and cause complications such as back pain, difficulty in breathing, or issues with heart and lung function if severe curvature is present.
